Q: Some products on your website have a Tummy Friendly symbol. What does this mean?

A: Orgran products have their own Tummy Friendly symbol to help customers identify products that are suitable for their dietary requirements. Products displaying the ORGRAN Tummy Friendly logo are not just gluten and fructose free, but also made without onion, garlic and pea flour. These ingredients have all been identified as ingredients to limit or avoid as part of the Low FODMAP diet.

Q: Some products stocked on your website are gluten free. Why is this important?

A: A gluten free diet is required by people with coeliac disease (also know as "celiac" in the USA) – it is the only treatment for this lifelong condition. Coeliac disease is incredibly common, affecting 1 in 100 people. Information about the condition and a gluten free diet can be found at www.coeliac.org.uk

FODMarket products are selected for people with IBS and not necessarily for coeliacs (although there is an overlap). Low traces of gluten are acceptable on the low FODMAP Diet and should not present any symptoms. However if you have coeliac disease, then it is best for products to be certified as gluten free.

If coeliac, care should be taken to ensure only certified gluten free products are consumed. To find certified gluten free products on FODMarket, search for "COELIAC"  using the website search tool.

Q: Some foods include high FODMAP ingredients, for example celery. How is it possible for the product still to be considered suitable for the Low FODMAP diet?

A: Foods are not required to be free from FODMAPs, just low in FODMAPs. Scientific studies have determined, via laboratory analysis, the cut-off levels of FODMAPs permitted in a serve in order to still achieve the aim of controlling IBS symptoms.

Where food has been certified as low FODMAP, the products have been scientifically tested to ensure the quantity of the higher FODMAP item is small enough per serve for the overal product to still be considered low in FODMAPs.

Q: Can I follow the low FODMAP Diet without seeing a doctor or dietitian?

A: It is recommended that the low FODMAP Diet is followed under the direction of a doctor or accredited certified dietitian. Your dietitian or doctor is best placed to help you implement the diet and will ensure your diet remains balanced and nutritionally adequate.
