FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS about INTOLERAN

Digestive enzymes are proteins that help break down food into smaller, absorbable components. Your body naturally produces enzymes, but certain carbohydrates, especially FODMAPs, are poorly digested by some individuals. By using a digestive enzyme supplement, you can supplement your body's own enzymes and thereby support the digestion of certain foods. There are different types of digestive enzymes that can help digest, for example, lactose, fructose, complex carbohydrates, or histamine.

Intoleran enzyme supplements are designed to support the digestion of various carbohydrates and other food components, including:

• FODMAPs such as lactose, fructose, fructans, and galactans

• Other carbohydrates like sucrose and starch

• Histamine (in the case of histamine-rich foods)

Would you like to know which foods typically contain these components? Take a look at our pie chart for an easy overview:

Enzymes are not effective in breaking down polyols, such as sorbitol or mannitol. If you are sensitive to these, it is best to avoid them. Enzymes also do not work in the case of food allergies, they cannot prevent or reduce allergic reactions to specific foods.
Intoleran's enzyme supplements are intended for individuals who wish to support the digestion of specific types of carbohydrates. Each product contains enzymes that help break down certain substances from food, such as lactose, fructans, galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS), fructose, starch, or sucrose. If your diet includes foods containing these carbohydrates, enzyme supplementation may be suitable for you.
Take the enzyme supplements just before or with the first bite of your meal. The enzymes remain active for approximately 45 minutes. For longer meals, it may be helpful to take an additional dose during the meal.

If you are using the enzymes for the first time, we recommend starting with the highest suggested dose. After that, you can gradually reduce the dosage to find the minimum effective amount per meal. For example, if the recommended dose is 1–3 capsules, begin with 3 and adjust down based on your personal experience.
Not sure which Intoleran supplement is right for you? Here's a quick guide to help you choose the right product based on the food components you react to:

• Multiple FODMAPs → FODMIX (formerly known as Quatrase 10,000) – ideal if you're sensitive to several FODMAP groups at once.
• Lactose → Choose from Lactase 2500, 10,000, or 20,000, depending on your level of intolerance. We also offer Lactase Drops for liquid dairy and Once a Day capsules for ongoing daily support.
• Fructose → Fructase – supports digestion of fructose found in fruits, honey, and more.
• Fructans / Galactans → Fibractase 1200 – supports digestion for foods like onion, garlic, legumes, and wheat.
• Starch and sucrose → Starchway – supports digestion with starchy foods and table sugar
Fodmix and FODZYME both contain enzymes that support the digestion of fructans, GOS, and lactose, so there's certainly some overlap between the two products. One key difference lies in the format: FODZYME is a powder that you sprinkle over your food, while Fodmix comes in convenient capsules. Some people prefer mixing a powder directly with their meal, but for many, capsules are the simpler choice, especially when eating out or on the go.

What makes Fodmix stand out is that it also contains the enzyme Xylose Isomerase, which helps digest fructose. Fructose is a common FODMAP found in foods like honey, mango, apples, and pear juice and can cause symptoms in a large number of people.

In addition, when fructans are broken down by enzymes, they release fructose. For individuals who are sensitive to both, Fodmix's combination of Alpha Galactosidase (for fructans and GOS) and Xylose Isomerase (for fructose) provides broader support.

So ultimately, the right choice depends on individual needs and sensitivities. But for those dealing with multiple FODMAP issues or looking for an all-in-one, Fodmix may be the more comprehensive option.

FODMIX is formerly known as Quatrase 10,000 – a trusted product with many years of positive feedback from satisfied customers.
